Farmers in Newfoundland and Labrador are warning that rising grain prices will drive up the price of chicken.
"We all know the prices of grains has gone up across the country for whatever reason and eventually they get passed on to the farmer which passes them along to his consumer," said Eugene Legge, the president of the province's federation of agriculture, said Tuesday
Legge is a chicken farmer in the Conception Bay community of Harbour Main.
He said the cost of buying feed has gone up already, but predicting when chicken prices would rise would be difficult because some grain is bought on speculation a year ahead of time.
