chicken coop building guide

chicken coop building guide

When it comes to giving your pet chickens a home, it doesn't matter whether it's a conventional chicken coop, an open range or an off-the-ground kennel -- all kinds of poultry housing require specific characteristics and features to ensure a healthy flock..
The best chicken coops or poultry houses have several characteristics, as recommended by the University of Maryland's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. First, the coop should protect your backyard chickens from predators like weasels, hawks and your neighbor's dog. Second, it should be constructed of economical building material that's easily available. Third, it should be sturdy enough to stand up against unfavorable weather. Fourth, it should provide your chickens with a balance of shelter and ventilation. Fifth, it should be easy to clean and budget-friendly to maintain. And finally, it should be big enough for your backyard flock of hens.

KFC Double Down

Finger lickin' good? The Double Down consists of two chicken breast fillets with a filling of bacon, two melted slices of cheese and a mayonnaise sauce

The KFC 'Double Down', which goes on sale in the U.S. on Monday, contains two pieces of bacon and two melted slices of cheese, slathered in mayonnaise and sandwiched between two slices of meat.
Nutritionists are horrified by the launch of the fatty dish in a country where two-thirds of the population is overweight or obese.
KFC insists the sandwich contains 540 calories - but it has been reported that it actually racks up a much higher figure of 1,228, or about half of a man's recommended daily intake.

KFC in fight with Fijian colonel over secret herbs and spices
Fast-food chain KFC was forced to close three of its outlets on the Pacific island of Fiji Photo: AP
KFC suspended all business in Fiji on Monday, complaining that the country's quarantine body was preventing it from importing key ingredients, including a milk and egg mix and its famous herbs and spices, needed to create Colonel Sanders' secret recipes.
The company said that since October last year, the Fiji Quarantine and Inspection Division had stopped the importation of the ingredients.
"The missing ingredients led to a decline in product quality, coupled with rising food costs, contributed to decreasing sales," it said in a statement.
But Fiji's Biosecurity Agency, led by its own Colonel Mason Smith, has accused KFC of using the agency as a scapegoat.
Col Smith, chairman of the BAF, said the agency could not release the goods from quarantine because KFC had not provided a certificate proving that they products were disease free. Although the company had imported products into Fiji for 10 years, it had recently changed suppliers and needed to provide fresh documentation, he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

chicken breasts at kfc

KFC is making another promotional push for their Kentucky Grilled Chicken this summer, and to aid them in the endeavor, they're going with bigger chicken breasts. Bigger is better right?

The chicken breast pieces (but not the wings, thighs, or legs) are now, on average, 20% larger than before.

In an interesting tidbit from the press release, KFC's KGS secret recipe is kept on an encrypted flash drive right next to their handwritten recipe for Original Recipe in the same high-security vault at their corporate headquarters.

Aviagen has provided significant support to the Czech branch of the World Poultry Science Association (WPSA) at the organization’s 15th annual conference in Brno.

The conference was attended by more than 100 technical and veterinary professionals from around the Czech Republic; speakers from eight different countries, including two from Aviagen, covered the industry’s most pressing topics over the course of two days.

Among the speakers were Jim McAdam, Aviagen's UK breeding programme director, who discussed the importance of a balanced breeding programme, and Vlada Zima, Aviagen's sales and technical manager for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, who presented the findings of a collaboration between Aviagen and the University in Saskatchewan in Canada on lighting programs for broilers.

Vlada Zima commented: "The WPSA plays a crucial role in telling the story of poultry science to the industry as a whole. They help the poultry industry to advance knowledge and provide technical support – and we were delighted to be asked to take part in the conference in the Czech Republic.

"The Czech market is growing and the industry now has a well-established network of poultry experts. Our role in helping the market grow is two-old: we provide the products that are best suited to the marketplace, and we offer the highest quality technical support in the industry."

Aviagen has an ongoing commitment to providing on-the-ground technical support for the poultry industry around the world. It continues to offer ongoing support, but places great value in events such as those arranged by the WPSA, which have the specific aim of advancing knowledge and understanding of all aspects of poultry science.

kfc chicken breast

From a quick glance at the menu, a 'bunless chicken sandwich' might sound like the ideal meal for slimmers.

Kentucky Fried Chicken is appealing to its carb-conscious customers by launching its first bread-free burger.

But dieters may wish to look a little more closely at the picture on the left before they place their order. The traditional bun has actually been replaced with two thick slabs of fried chicken.

"price trend" duck feather china

"price trend" duck feather china

China is an important LCysteine producer in the world. The impact of the global economic crisis has struck the industry's development since the products are exportoriented. Fortunately, since 2010, the industry has been recovering; some producers progressively expand their production scale. To learn about the lastest information about production, this report can be your helpful reference.

This report keeps you informed of the latest information about producers. Over 20 players led by Shine Star (Hubei) Biological Engineering Co., Ltd. are active in China, totally outputting 5,360 tonnes of LCysteine products in 2010. Of this output, about 1,800 tonnes are used in different downstream industries. Foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics are the top three consumption fields in China.

Additionally, electroreduction method remains the mainstream technology of making LCysteine products in China. But it brings high production cost to producers by increasing their investment in waste treatment. Amidst the backdrop of increasing attention paid to environmental protection and more relevant policies being promulgated, what will be the way out and the future trend of the production technology?

vanaraja poultry farming

vanaraja poultry farming

A Hyderabad-developed poultry breed has brought about a sea change in the lives of farmers in Mon district of Nagaland.
‘Reduced mortality rates of Vanaraja-bred birds, developed by the project directorate on poultry, Hyderabad, and increased income, has resulted in farmers asking for more supplies of the breed from the Nairobi-headquartered International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) which promoted the breed.
‘Rameshwar Deka, scientific officer ILRI and head of its Northeast centre said, “Looking at the success rate and profit earned from the Vanaraja birds, many more farmers are approaching the ILRI. Drawing encouragement from the ILRI’s promotion of a flock of 10 birds, some farmers in the villages have started rearing much bigger flocks with their own investment on a commercial basis.” The project was promoted in Lompongsheanghah and Longwa villages of Mon district under the World Bank-funded national agricultural innovation project initiative, led by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) under the project Livelihood improvement and empowerment of rural poor through sustainable farming systems in Northeast India.
‘Deka said prior to their intervention, they had found the poultry production system in the these villages traditional and poorly remunerative. “We had to look for dual purpose cross-bred birds, which can thrive well under poor feeding and management condition and can grow faster than indigenous birds, to improve the livelihood of the poor in the project villages. Finally, the Vanaraja bird was identified, since it had multiple colours, looked like indigenous birds and fetched better price in the market,” he said.

    poultry market price

    poultry market price

    Poultry

The poultry industry has warned that prices are likely to escalate in the coming year, with indications that international prices will be higher than they have been over the past few years.
Kevin Lovell, the chief executive of the Southern African Poultry Association, said even though there was a surplus of grain, which is used in chicken feed lots, poultry prices would rise because the grain industry follows the US pricing structure.
“We must remember that maize is traded as a futures contract based on import parity and export parity,” he said.
Although prices were going up, if there was a shortage, prices would be much higher. Input costs had increased sharply and the industry, as well as retailers, should be raising prices. Lovell indicated that prices were likely to increase by 15 percent.
At retail level, most frozen chicken was currently sold at R16 to R18 a kilogram, and fresh chicken was sold at R25 a kilogram, Lovell said.
Poultry price increases were not unique to South Africa, and prices were set to be even higher in other countries, which were dependent on imported maize.
Lovell criticised the US role in grain productions, arguing that its policy on biofuel was a crime against humanity because it used more grain for fuel than Africa used for food.

    poultry production challenges in zimbabwe

Zimbabwe's poultry production has reached 5 million chicks and between 60,000 and 70,000 dozen eggs a month, according to recent reports, showing growth between 16% and 19% compared to previous years.

The industry, which is split between informal traders (65%) and formal traders (35%), is contributing 6,500 metric tons of meat on a monthly basis, said Solomon Zawe, chairperson of the Zimbabwe Poultry Association. The biggest challenges to the growing industry, said Zawe, are high utility charges, power cuts and the prohibition of the use of genetically modified organisms to feed the chickens.
