PAKISTAN - Pakistan Poultry Association has called on the government not to implement a general sales tax (GST) on poultry feed.
The PPA Chairman Khalil Sattar, PPA (Tariff and Taxation Committee) convenor Dr Mohammad Sadiq and former chairman Dr Mohammad Aslam said that the local poultry industry was fulfilling the demands of entire country, a report in The News says.
The private sector has invested around Rs400 billion in the industry and around 1.5 million people were attached to it.
They said that if the GST comes into force, it would not only double chicken prices but also cut a source of protein for poorer people.
They said GST on poultry feed would also increase prices of processed chicken.
The Pakistan Poultry Association also staged a protest demonstration in front of the National Press Club.
