Chicken price in Pakistan Chicken prices increase ahead of Ramazan
Already, an overwhelming number of consumers have quit the consumption of beef and mutton. With current sharp increase in prices of chicken, only the opulent section of the population can now afford the commodity.
According to newly issued rates of Karachi Wholesalers Poultry Association, price of live broiler stands at Rs 166 to 168 per kilogramme, while price of Chicken meat is at Rs 266 to 268 per kilogramme.
During the previous week, the commodity was sold at Rs 240 to 245 per kilogramme, but the growing difference between supply and demand have resulted in steep increase in the prices of chicken.
Representatives of wholesalers association attributed the increase to the ongoing marriage season, which has gained momentum before start of the holy month of Ramzan.
Furthermore, disruption in supply of chicken from Dhabi Jee, Pipri, Hub Chowki, Gharo, Thatta, Mir Pur Khas, Dunba Goth, Nooriabad and super highway, on account of monsoon season, has also aggravated the price.
Explaining the deteriorating situation relating to short supply of chicken from remaining farms, convener of Karachi Wholesalers Poultry Association, Maroof Siddiqui, while replying to a question of the Daily Times, asserted that traders are unable to cater to the growing demand of consumers, consequently the huge gap between demand and supply is putting enormous strain on the commodity, resulting in an abnormal increase in their rates.
Maroof Siddiqui, replying to a query, said that the gap between demand and supply would be reduced by the start of Ramzan, when demand would plunge and prices would start normalizing, providing relief to consumers.
“Chicken sales for the last two to three days, are low as we are receiving orders only from roadside hotels and fast food restaurants, while consumers’ response was very overwhelmingly poor,” said one retailer when asked about the impact of high chicken price.
