KFC in fight with Fijian colonel over secret herbs and spices

KFC suspended all business in Fiji on Monday, complaining that the country's quarantine body was preventing it from importing key ingredients, including a milk and egg mix and its famous herbs and spices, needed to create Colonel Sanders' secret recipes.
The company said that since October last year, the Fiji Quarantine and Inspection Division had stopped the importation of the ingredients.
"The missing ingredients led to a decline in product quality, coupled with rising food costs, contributed to decreasing sales," it said in a statement.
But Fiji's Biosecurity Agency, led by its own Colonel Mason Smith, has accused KFC of using the agency as a scapegoat.
Col Smith, chairman of the BAF, said the agency could not release the goods from quarantine because KFC had not provided a certificate proving that they products were disease free. Although the company had imported products into Fiji for 10 years, it had recently changed suppliers and needed to provide fresh documentation, he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
