The department of poultry science is imparting the recent scientific knowledge to the students on different aspects of poultry science like farm management of broiler, layer and breeding flocks, poultry housing and environments, poultry nutrition, disease prevention and control, hatchery operation and management, poultry processing and marketing. At present there are 13 undergraduate and 14 postgraduate courses are offered in winter and spring semesters into various degree programmes in the university. Besides these courses, training programs and practical activities are also being offered under Rural Home Economics) and Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD) classes. So far, the department of Poultry Science has conferred 186 M.Sc (Hons) and 17 Ph. D degrees up till now.
The students from the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and from the Faculty of Agriculture also learn the basic knowledge of poultry science and practices. In addition to these, teaching staff of the department of poultry science is also engaged in imparting basic training and knowledge to the rural communities as an extension programmes through various extension techniques. The department is also helping commercial poultry industry to solve its problems.
The Department of Poultry Science has established hi-tech poultry equipment demonstration laboratory, which is a unique laboratory of its kind in the field of poultry. This laboratory is developed to train the students to cope with advancement in the automation of poultry farming.
