The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 24 June to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes a single outbreak of LPAI in a flock of free-range hens at Creil in Flevoland in the centre of the country. All 47,000 birds in the flock are to be destroyed.

The presence of the H7N7 sub-type of the bird flu virus has been confirmed.

All poultry within a three-kilometre radius of the affected farm are being tested.

The last outbreak of LPAI in the country was in March 2011.
