News Ja Broilers, Mother's to receive top observer food awards the world



THE Observer Food Awards will this evening honour the Jamaica Broilers Group of Companies and Mother's with the Lifetime Achievement and Chairman's awards respectively at the 13th staging of the annual show at Devon House in Kingston.

Scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm, the prestigious event will feature another 25 awards being presented in four categories.

Lifetime Achievement awardee Jamaica Broilers has been in business for 53 years over which time it has become a household name that is synonymous with quality and service.

The pioneer producer of broiler meat on a commercial scale is regarded as the most diversified, vertically integrated agricultural producer in any developing nation.

The multibillion-dollar company employs approximately 1,500 persons at nine locations across Jamaica and two locations in the USA, and has a total of 14 operating divisions and subsidiaries.

"Over half-a-million birds are supplied to and processed through the Best Dressed Chicken ISO 14001-certified, state-of-the art processing plant each week," the citation to Jamaica Broilers says.

"Over the last five decades, the company has become known and loved for its wide range of premium quality products, with its flagship brands being the Best Dressed Chicken and Hi-Pro quality feeds," the citation reads.

Mother's, which is receiving the Chairman's Award, has seen its operation grow to 20 restaurants across the island since July 1981 when it opened its first outlet. "Mother's also manages the operations of a number of school cafeterias, supplies patties and meals to over 175 schools across the island, and operates the new Devon House Bakery," the citation points out.Mother's, the citation added, "has taken the ultimate Jamaican comfort food to the next level with the introduction of a number of flavours and styles of patties to the menus at Mother's and the Devon House Bakery".
